©BBCOver 70% of the earth is covered by the sea, yet we have explored less than 1% of it. Giant squid is one of the mysteries that lives uder the ocean. A New Zealand fishermen has caught a colossal squid, reported by BBC, 22 Feb. 2007. The squid is estimated 450kg (990lb), 10m (33ft) long and was the first adult colossal squid landed intact.
One of BBC Ocean Odyssey series features sperm whale, the largest toothed animal alive, and its big fight with giant squid in deep-ocean. Giant squid remains mysterious because its appearance is rarely seen on the surface of the ocean. This recently caught giant squid was nearly dead when found and was brought back to New Zealand for scientfic examination.
